Some might argue that House glamorized the use of opiates before the epidemic of prescription drugs killed so many Americans. However, House never pretended to be a role model. He was the anti-hero: a revolting person that had precisely one redeeming quality, solving medical mysteries. Its similarity to the story of Sherlock Holmes isn't lost on the creators either, naming House's Watson 'Wilson'. In the end, the show is fantastic escapism, with most plots resolving themselves within the hour. In fact, I would say its one of the best procedurals of all time (forget the crime shows like CSI). Just don't be surprised that the first thing the medical team tries doesn't cure the patient, just like the first person in crime shows suspect doesn't turn out to be guilty.
